It's important to make a distinction, very important. We have the United Kingdom (which is the result of the union of all the countries on the island, including the flag—with the exception of Ireland), but we also have Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England.

But our case here is Scotland.

Home of the very prominent McRae clan, with a powerful name and history in the world of rallying. Also home to Andrew Cowan, who, in addition to being largely responsible for the 'introduction' of Mitsubishi to rallying, was one of the great pioneers in popularizing the sport across the globe. Blessed land!

The first event to be held in the country was the Scottish Rally, first organized in June 1938, followed by a second edition in May 1953 (results unavailable), and from 1958 onwards, the event has been held virtually uninterruptedly until today. But, in addition to the Scottish Rally, it's worth mentioning the Granite City Rally, which has been held continuously since 1968.

The national championship began in 1968, and the main highlight is Drew Gallacher, a four-time national champion.

Interesting races and drivers. Stability and balance.

I believe this is a true reflection of rallies in Slovakia.

The first rally held in the country, still under Czechoslovakia, was in 1969 and was organized in the city of Poprad. It was the Tatranska rally, on August 24th. The rally had 15 teams at the start and 14 at the finish, and was won by the duo Milan Tvrdan and Milan Martis, driving a Skoda 1000. In fact, the Tatranska rally was renamed Tatry the following year and, over time, joined the select group of classic events in the sport. In addition to the Tatry, two other events: Kosice (held since 1971) and Presov (held since 1976) are also important events in the country.

After the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in 1993, the first edition of the championship took place the following year (the same happened in the Czech Republic), and since then, the championship has been held regularly. Special mention goes to Stanislav Chovanec, three-time national champion, and Jozef Beres, two-time national champion.

The Rallymemory archive unfortunately does not contain images of races in the country.

Provas e pilotos interessantes. Estabilidade e equilibrio.

An unknown.

Is that so?

In my opinion, what was most evident during the period of existence of the country was the low quality of cars produced and, at the sporting level, the low competitiveness of cars from European and Asian continents. I think that was the differential of everything.

In the case of pilots, I believe that if it were not the material (cars) available, the level of local pilots would be at the level of European pilots, that is: a constant and satisfactory evolution.

The first test held in the country (as the Soviet Union), took place in the Ukrainian city of Uzhgorod and took the name of the city itself, from 13 to 15 July 1961, whose result is not available in the Rallymemory archive. But still in the same year of 1961 another event was organized, this time in Tallinn (Estonia), from 29 to 30 September, called SAMi Autoralli, with 22 teams on departure and 6 on arrival and was won by the local duo Uno Aava (no relation with Urmo Aava, okay?)- Vaino Paasik behind the wheel of a GAZ M-21 Volga.

The national championship, which began in 1958, was marked by balance and stability. Bigger highlight for Eugenius Tumaliavichus, 4 times national champion. But on the Soviet roads there were other interesting names such as Stassis Brundza (Lithuania), Kastitis Girdauskas (Lithuania) and Nikolay Bolshih (Russia).

Races? The Estonian rally began its trajectory as an organized race in the Soviet Union. The same can be said of the Latvia rally, nowadays among the world's leading, including (both in different seasons) WRC. And some more: Russkaya Zima, Yalta, Old Toomas...

Total races in Rallymemory file: 69

E outras mais: Russkaya Zima, Yalta, Old Toomas...
